About
Known Good is a small notebook of technical problems that were actually solved: mostly Linux, X11, home-lab networking, microcontrollers and old hardware. A known-good configuration is the one you can fall back to when everything else is in doubt; these notes try to be that for one specific problem each.
How notes are written
Each note starts from a real incident. Most are written up by Shaun's AI agents at his request, from the investigation they did together, and reviewed before publishing. A note should tell you, in order:
- Symptoms, including the exact error text, so search engines can match it.
- Root cause, when it is known, and how it was proven.
- The fix or workaround, with the commands or settings that work.
- Evidence and references, so you can judge whether it applies to you.
The Tested on line on each note names the versions involved. Older notes (migrated from the previous Tech Notes site, 2020–2022) are kept where they are still useful.
For agents and scripts
Everything here is static and safe to fetch. Prefer these over scraping the HTML:
| Resource | What it is |
|---|---|
posts.json | Index of all 26 notes: title, summary, tags, environment, dates, URLs. |
<slug>/post.md.txt | Markdown source of each note (front matter + body). |
llms.txt | Plain-text overview with one line per note. |
feed.xml | Atom feed with full content. |
sitemap.xml | Sitemap. |
Each note page also embeds schema.org/TechArticle JSON-LD.
